I have come to the conclusion that if possible, everyone should should experience the incredible feeling of travel at some point in their lives.
Here I am, in a giant treehouse 2 minutes from the beach, surrounded by all of these different people of all ages from all sorts of walks of life. We are travellers. Most of us on our own or in pairs, but we are not really alone at all.
Last night I witnessed something special, it wasn’t an actual thing, more just an energy, but it was totally priceless. And I feel so privileged to have been a part of it. Around 25-30 solo travellers were all gathered in this magical wooden hostel, laughing, dancing, drinking and simply enjoying that time there and then. And the interesting thing about it is that we are all so different; different cultures, lifestyles, upbringings, stories, opinions, languages, senses of humour, everything. But yet all of that is put aside and here we are, all in this one place at exactly the same time. For some reason, one by one we have all ended up here, another stop on our journeys, and for a short time all of our paths will cross before we disperse and go our separate ways.
All we know about each other is whatever is shown in the moment, the back stories and pasts don’t matter because we are just here, now, in the present moment, and there’s no time to worry about that stuff anyway because time is limited and we will all be moving on soon.
I can’t help but wonder why we don’t act like that in our lives back home. Why do we let things matter so much? Why do we get so caught up in situations? I know circumstances are different in the sense that you aren’t meeting so many new people on a daily basis and things are more consistent, but time is just as limited there as it is when travelling.
So in a nutshell, I guess I have rediscovered that we should value the time that we share with the people around us, and try not to get too anxious/caught up/worried about situations that may arise or have already arisen. Life goes on, and it’s happening too quickly to waste time on unnecessary matter, enjoy now and enjoy it with everyone around you – which is easier said than done in some cases, but we are all on this journey together.
This is why I hope that everyone can experience travel one day; the freedom and exhilaration it can bring is indescribable, the lessons available to be learned are priceless, and every person you encounter will add something new to your perception of life.
I’m now going into my tenth week away and every day brings something new to the table. So happy Sunday people, I hope you enjoy it xxxxx
